Construction of the Palace of Culture building (which houses the Romanian Opera) started in 1871, according to the plans of Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer (builders of many theaters in Central Europe – Budapest, Vienna, Odessa) and was completed in 1875. In his first form, the building houses an auditorium, centrally located (the current hall of the Romanian National Theatre and the Opera scene, warehouses, administrative annex, cabins), an inn and around, arranged symmetrically commercial units characteristic time.
